Jaipur

Well... Whose silly idea was it to follow summer all year 'round anyway? Whose silly idea was it to visit the desert during summer? Sorry folks, it's time for a rant. We know it's freezing back home but just to sniff the chill for a moment sounds like heaven right now. We are currently sweating away our kilos and our souls in Jaipur. Our days consist of a few hours wandering in the morning, before retreating to our guesthouse to pass out for a few hours under the fan. Then a tasty lunch, then it's pass out time again, before we venture out into the wonderful 40 degree evenings before going to bed...under the fan!

And as for Jaipur... Well that's another rant in itself. After our peaceful sojourn throughout desert Rajasthan, we have been hit with the whirlwind of Jaipur - Rajasthan's capital city. It's hot, noisy, flat out. It's a mecca for shopping, with streets and alleyways lined with tiny little shops crammed full of merchandise. That's tomorrow's mission. The old city itself has thousands of shops selling anything from sarees to sandalwood. You can buy anything here. It's amazing, but expensive as too many tourists with too much money have visited before us. Bastards!

Jaipur has been a bit of a disappointment after having visited such amazing towns and cities throughout India. It's been a bit of a reality check also, bringing us back to the filth and poverty that is India. What others' have said rings true in our ears... India is a country that you have a love-hate relationship with. Absolutely amazing.

hello,

thank you for the birthday wishes and i cant believe i missed your call- do you see a pattern- you ring on thursdays- we are not here!!! try wednesday, monday is also great!! we are very busy and important and doing lots of wonderful things- like sitting outside the cummins street flats for hours on end.

I miss you both and i loved seeing the pictures- Dennis is sooo good looking- i had forgetten. Andrea could you eat more please- dont come home looking like that (skinny minny).

Tilly has arrived and is very happy and was very excited to see us which was very special- when you said she wasn't allowed on the couch does that mean all couches or just your couch??? its so soft and comfy.

She and suki are settling in to the new house well- moving is not fun and the new address is ( for all the presents you are buying and sending) and also for any random strangers reading 193 carbon street.
we are preparing the love suite for your return to the hill- where i plan to keep you captive for a year to make up for this desertion.

We had a great holiday- lots of eating and jacket wearing (especially a long blue velvet one- it looks much better on me). However we didnt get to meet Jim- does he exist or is it just dennis hiding in the bush?? There was a drop off point where the dog and money were exchanged- strange.

all of your adventures sound wonderful. Thanks for the email- it inspired gav to invite everyone over for indian tommorow- it will be a very similar experience and we will rememebr to talk about you two.

Ok i have written half a book- its nice to write from home when i have time and not when i should be teaching the dramatic importance of king lear to yaer 10 ( boring)

we love you lots

kelli, gavin, suki and Tilly

PS i am in denial about being so old- please dont mention it again.

Hi happy or not so happy campers

Thanks for the phone call last night, it was so good to hear your friendly voice and know that you're doing ok.

That online newspaper i told you about was www.barrierminer.com.au and watch out for the 'ask your pharmacist' column. You might have some interesting questions to ask. You said it was 45 and stinky hot there, well it's 5 degrees here and frigging freezing.

Agfair was interesting. My highlight was the fashion parade consisting of women in jeans and rugby tops or flannel shirts and vests. it's all about the quality. i think we're having a poker night this wednesday if you're interested. it might mean someone other than kevin will take all of my money.

Cheers

Jason and Rachel

ps if you are going to be in 1 place for a while and want a chat just put ther hotel's phone number and an ideal time and we could give you a call.
